LazyBoy/Repo II: Slingin’ in the Rain (@Revolution)

When YHC and his Co-Q Repo were discussing this impending beatdown they decided that even in the dark and the rain it was a "Suns Out Guns Out" kind of day, so this upper body monster commenced. YHC was actually on time for the workout, even posting a few minutes early to the shock and dismay of the Pax. Head even mentioned that when he pulled up and saw YHC's truck already parked that he assumed his own clock must have been wrong and he was in fact actually late. But alas that was not the case and the beatdown started promptly at 5:30 with a call to circle up by Co-Q Repo.

Warm Up:

  • 15 X SSH IC
  • 15 X Pennington's IC
  • 15 X Merkins OYO
  • 20 X Choppin' Wood IC

The Thang:

The Pax was informed to each grab a cinder block and partner up on the sidewalk. When they returned with said cinder blocks the workout was laid out. One partner would start on the sidewalk and the other at the flag. Blocks would be used at both ends. When traversing back and forth between the two stations two burpees would be hit when approaching the swing set both coming and going. On the sidewalk end 300 of each exercise were to be completed by each team. At the flag 20 reps of an exercise on the sheet, descending down the sheet each time were to be completed before going back to tag your partner out and send him to the flag. (This may sound incredibly familiar to anyone who was at the 11/19 Convergence. Admittedly your Co-Q's did ape this aspect from Goldi's workout that day in the parking lot. But in our defense it was a helluva workout that morning AND most of the Revolution guys weren't there so they would be none the wiser.)

The Sidewalk Set of Workouts (With Blocks):

The Flag Set of Workouts (With Blocks):

  • Incline Merkins (20)
  • Decline Merkins (20)
  • SSH (20) (Without Blocks Obviously)
  • Mountain Climbers(20) (Ditto)
  • Rows (20)

About two thirds of the way through the call was made to modify from swing set burpees in to lunges. This came after YHC busted his ass attempting a burpee for what felt like the millionth time in that damn mud, causing much derision from PowderBoy who was obviously not paying enough attention to his own workout since he had time for jokes. The highlights of this section included YHC threatening to hide behind his Co-Q's car and sucker punch him the next morning when he left for work after a spat over the ridiculous number of Hartsville Hammer's Repo had assigned even though he knew his Co-Q DESPISES ab work as well as Repo's absolute refusal to keep an accurate count on the team's number of reps leading to YHC doing about 30 extra curls thus rendering the aforementioned sucker punch an idle threat. The Pax was absolutely GASSED by the time each team had completed their 300 but everyone did indeed finish with a little help from their brothers picking up reps. Co-Q Repo called recover and we circled up for Name-arama and the devo which was to be delivered by YHC LazyBoy who is to be perfectly honest beginning to get a bit of a big head regarding his ability to inspire the Pax in this situation.


"On the back of this F3 shirt right here it says: "Get Busy Living or Get Busy Dying". That reminded me of one of my favorite quotes from one of my heroes; Coach Lou Holtz he said : "Life is really quite exciting. One day you’re drinking the wine, and the next day you’re picking more grapes. There are certain things in the world we all have in common such as time. Everybody has sixty seconds to a minute, sixty minutes to an hour, twenty-four hours to a day; the difference is what we do with that time and how we use it. As Reverend Harrington says, “if you’re killing time it’s not murder, but pure suicide." And that just led me down a Lou Holtz wormhole so here's a few of my favorite Dr. Lou quotes:

On the four cornerstones needed in life:

“You need something to do, someone to love, something to believe in and something to hope for.”

On happiness:

“If you want to be happy for a day, go out and play golf. If you want to be happy for a week, go on a cruise. If you want to be happy for a month, get a new car. If you want to be happy for a year, win the lottery.

“But if you want to he happy for a lifetime, make sure you add value to everyone you come in contact with.”

And to tie it up a little spiritually: 

"I can't, I just can't believe that God put us on this earth to be ordinary"

In the F3 book "Freed To Lead" they talk about being a "High Impact Man" which is defined as : " A man dedicated to forcible contact to strong effect. A Disrupter. That Somebody who makes things happen." I definitely thought those quotes speak to that idea. And I gotta be honest fellas that really speaks to me. It really appeals to me and when I look around this circle I damn sure think I see a bunch of guys who feel the same way. And I actually wanted to finish this one up with Coach Holtz's Team Prayer."

Team Prayer By Coach Lou Holtz:

This is the beginning of a new day. God has given me this day to use as I will. I can waste it or use it for good. But what I do today is important because I'm exchanging a day of my life for it.

When tomorrow comes this day will be gone forever, leaving in its place that which I have traded. I want it to be gain not loss, good not evil, success not failure.

14 for a LazyBoy/Repo Co-Q with a shoutout to Jimmy V (@Revolution)

(This was YHC’s V-Q and now V-BB so please bear with.)

Upon arriving the Pax was instructed to go get a cylinder and informed we would be toting them around with us all day. Then Repo made the call for the warm up and we all circled up.

Warm Up:

  • 15 X SSH IC
  • 25 X Pennington's IC
  • 25 X Reverse Pennington's IC
  • 15 X Merkins OYO
  • 5 X Burpees OYO

The Thang:

The aforementioned cylinders were now in play. 4 corners were set up each with a list 4 workouts on them. We started with 10 reps and went up by 10 each time a new corner was reached. Your cylinder was integral to the workouts and had to be carried with you from corner to corner. The corners were traversed by bear crawling to one and then broad jumping to the next one. You could get your cylinder there however you liked but the bear crawling and broad jumping was non-negotiable. CREATIVITY WAS ENCOURAGED. After every 3 broad jumps you hit a burpee and then back to broad jumping.

The First Set of Workous:

  • Merkins (10,20,30,40)
  • Overhead Press (10,20,30,40)
  • LBC's (10,20,30,40)
  • Curls (10,20,30,40)

After one round of this YHC was GASSED and had spent a large chunk of the time mumble-chattering/bitching through his OWN workout. This included lashing out at the Co-Q for printing higher than agreed upon reps and MAYBE even accusing one of the Pax of being a "snitch". We took a quick water break and then got back to it, trusty cylinders still in tow.

The Second Set of Workouts:

  • Hartsville Hammers (40,30,20,10)
  • Chest Press (40,30,20,10)
  • Flutters (40,30,20,10)
  • Squats(40,30,20,10)

After a full round back through the cones filled with more cylinder love and LOTS more mumble-chatter/Co-Q bickering. We still had a few minutes left and Radar suggested we take it to Mary, which your Co-Q's in their infinite wisdom had completely forgot was even a thing. The cylinders were FINALLY returned home and the Pax circled up.

After a rousing round of Mary that included YHC taking cadence calling command from his Co-Q mid-rep so we could move on before anyone got a hernia we circled up for the devo.


"When me and Pat signed up to do this I told Pat I'd definitely take the devo and when I thought of the devo I thought to myself "What's the greatest speech ever given?" Then I thought " That's easy; 1993 Espy Awards : Jim Valvano" "Don't give up. Don't ever give up"  That's the most famous part of that speech. It's an amazing speech but there's another part of that speech that really spoke to me. Jimmy V was dying of cancer in fact he would only live less than two months after that night. He said and I'm just gonna quote this verbatim be cause Jimmy V was a lot better spoken than I am:


" People ask me all the time about how you go through your life and how’s your day, and nothing is changed for me. As Dick said, I’m a very emotional and passionate man. I can’t help it. That’s being the son of Rocco and Angelina Valvano. It comes with the territory. We hug, we kiss, we love.

When people say to me how do you get through life or each day, it’s the same thing. To me, there are three things we all should do every day. We should do this every day of our lives. Number one is laugh. You should laugh every day. Number two is think. You should spend some time in thought. Number three is you should have your emotions moved to tears, could be happiness or joy. But think about it. If you laugh, you think and you cry, that’s a full day. That’s a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you’re going to have something special."

Now I don't think I wanna cry every single day, that's a little much. But he's talking about ENGAGING. He's talking about living the HELL outta every single day and that just really spoke to me"

After that we brought it in tight and finished up High School football-style with the Lord's prayer. It was a helluva afternoon and a great experience.

Little Game of High/Low

Conditions: Heat Index pushing close to 110

Warmup – not needed, see conditions above

The Thing:

Deck of cards spread out on the ground in middle of field. (wasn’t expecting wind which blew the cards around some and felt like it wasn't coming from the Sahara Desert)
Everyone started around the cards by calling out someone to compete against in the first round.
Rest of the rounds, just random according to who makes it back to the cards to compete.
If you had the high card, off to the side of the field with the cylinder blocks you went, low card headed to opposite side of field.
Plenty of exercises with a multiplier number on each side of the field.
Luck / unluck of the draw to how many of you had to do.
Example: “Curls” multiplier number was 2 so your 9 of hearts got you 18 curls before heading back for your next draw.

Wild cards:
Deuces, one eyed jacks and jokers – this card was used to give your opponent 5 burpees and you a moment to catch your breath!
Lots of mumble chatter when this happen.

If two pax drew the same number, both did 5 burpees before redrawing. (amazing how many times this happen)

After 15 mins a small water break was taken. Did I mention it was HOTTTT!!!!
Most were able to complete both the High and Low list before time was finally called.

What do YOU want out of life?

Are you making it happen, or are you waiting for the perfect opportunity? What’s one thing you’ve always wanted to do but “haven’t got around to it yet”? Maybe it’s traveling to Hawai, driving cross country, or coaching your kid’s t-ball team. Perhaps it’s completing a triathlon, skydiving, climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, starting a business, or even something as simple as going on a date, taking dance lessons, or taking a cooking class with your spouse. Whatever it is, stop waiting and start acting because you never know what could happen tomorrow.

Life is too dang short, and too dang precious to wait until tomorrow. You could be alive today and hit by a bus tomorrow (I know this would be hard in Hartsville but you get the point), you really just never know. Today’s workout may have been doing what I can to help your fitness and feel better about yourself, but really it’s just removing any barriers that prevent you from living a life you can look back on with pride. I hope to look back on my life at the age of 93 age of my grandfather and say “I did it right.” If I don’t make it that long, that’s okay: as long as each day is lived with conviction and purpose, I can leave this world happy.

That means no regrets, tons of memories, and one gigantic smile

It’s time to start living a better life today, because tomorrow might not come and “eventually” never happens.

Revolution had 29 pax brave the afternoon heat between Tuesday and Thursday with some double downs. This was surely the hottest week of Revolution yet, and we still tied our best day Tuesday with 18. That says it all about the brotherhood we have here in the Ville!
